From Green Lantern to The Flash, several superhero movie suits from both Marvel and DC could have been better if they were practical most of the time.

There are many examples of potentially great live-action superhero suits that were made worse by CGI in both Marvel and DC. Costumes can make or break a superhero movie, especially when there are so many comic book characters being adapted to the screen. Some suits, such as Michael Keaton’s Bat-suit for Tim Burton’s Batman, became instant classics due to how simple yet stunning they looked. Others, such as Deadpool’s costume, combined practical suits with visual effects almost flawlessly.

In theory, a CG Green Lantern costume is not a bad idea. The Green Lanterns’ suits are, in most versions, created from the same energy that powers their rings – they work as green energy constructs. However, in practical terms, having the lead character’s entire body but his face be created through visual effects in 2011 was not a good idea. The result was Ryan Reynolds’ face floating above a green CG body, which only made an already flawed film worse.

7 Black Panther Black Panther’s suit in Captain America: Civil War was a standout, especially in a film where characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man were in CG suits most of the time. The scene where T’Challa removes his helmet after the chasing sequence was especially fascinating because of how Black Panther removed his helmet.

4 Moon Knight Moon Knight’s costume is one of the most stunning superhero suits in the MCU. However, it could have been even better if it was treated as a practical suit instead of a mystical creation that had to be done with CGI. Of course, Moon Knight’s Marvel lore is supernatural, but the Moon Kight series used a CG double for larger-than-life action sequences more than it had grounded fighting scenes. As a result, Moon Knight’s unique costume became just one of many CG superhero suits.
