A crash on the Seward Highway south of Girdwood sent one person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries early Saturday, authorities said.that they responded to Mile 83 of the highway — which is about 4 miles north of the Portage turn-off — at 12:39 a.m. Saturday for a report of a three-vehicle collision.
Police said in an updated alert that they believe a Subaru Outback was driving northbound toward Anchorage when it crossed into the southbound lanes, striking a snowmachine trailer towed by a Ford F-250, “then rotating and getting struck in the passenger side rear by a GMC Sierra.” The woman driving the Subaru was taken to the hospital with injuries that police described as life-threatening. No other injuries were reported, and police said no citations had been issued.
The Seward Highway was temporary closed in both directions at the site of the crash Saturday morning, and reopened by 8:30 a.m., police wrote.
