Temple University police officer shot and killed, suspect arrest
A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a shooting that killed a Temple University police officer in the line of duty near the school's campus Saturday night, sources tell FOX 29. Police say the officer was trying to intervene in a carjacking in the area of 18th Street and Montgomery Avenue in North Philadelphia when he was shot.
"This is really not something we wanted to see," Ganthier said. "We really wanted this to be a safe Mardi Gras." The superkrewe of Bacchus was temporarily halted in the 1500 block of St. Charles Avenue after the shooting. An officer said that the parade would resume to "get out of the way" of the crime scene.
