Even the Weasleys, a wizarding family who weren't cheering for Krum's team, couldn't help but show their respect for the Bulgarian Seeker. His fame and success became even more impressive when it was revealed that Krum was still a student.
During the second task of the Triwizard Tournament, each champion had a precious person taken away from them. For Harry, it was his best friend of 4 years. Cedric had his girlfriend, whom he had attended school with for years, taken, and Fleur's little sister was stolen all the way from France . However, in Viktor Krum's case, the person taken from him was Hermione, the girl he had only known for a few months.
Why Viktor Krum Was Important To The Harry Potter Series Viktor Krum becomes even more tragic when considering the school he was brought up in. Like Slytherin, Krum's wizarding school was known for teaching the Dark Arts, and the famed villain Gellert Grindelwald had once been a student there. Krum was ashamed of this connection and deeply resented that he attended a school heavily influenced by Dark magic.
This not only tipped Harry off to Grindelwald's connection to the Deathly Hallows but demonstrated a common theme in the Harry Potter series - a person can only be judged by their choices, not their circumstances. Krum was unfairly judged around every corner. People often assumed that Krum would have a big head because of his fame. Then, the judgment became even more unfair since people also assumed he was a Dark wizard because of his association with Dumrstrang and Karkaroff.
