An upcoming live-action remake from Disney can redeem the unsettling animation style from 2019’s The Lion King which undermined the beloved original.
One of Disney's upcoming live-action remakes can redeem The Lion King's disappointing animation style. Disney has announced that Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson will direct The Aristocats live-action remake, which bodes very well for Disney. Disney desperately needs to fix their live-action movies, and Questlove's The Aristocats is the perfect way to do so.
Disney's live-action adaptations have received mixed reviews over the years, with many questioning their design and its subsequent effect on each movie. 2019's The Lion King, for example, received some high praise for the groundbreaking and incredibly lifelike animation style that brought the animal protagonists to life. However, many others criticized this same technique for making the characters devoid of expression and resultantly feel somewhat unnerving.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Aristocats Remake Can Redeem The Live-Action Lion King Movie The original The Lion King was an emotional masterpiece that truly tugged at the heartstrings of audiences, but 2019's remake did not achieve this at all. The story lost much of its heart and had restricted expressive capabilities. Questlove, however, can change this with another feline-fan-favorite Disney is prepping for a live-action remake, The Aristocats.
Why Disney Needs To Fix Its Live-Action Movie Adaptation Problem Disney cannot seem to strike the correct tone with its ever-expanding live-action remakes of its classic animated movies. The emotional center of the original movies is so beloved when a live-action remake cannot emulate it, they are roundly rejected by audiences. Many consider these remakes pure financial opportunism, rather than a technological feat of hyper-realistic animation.
In order to remedy this, Disney must continue to compromise on realism in order to convey the same emotions as the originals. If not, they run the risk of audiences wondering what the point of a live-action remake is. Updating a classic, beloved movie requires some kind of justification. Thus far, Disney's live-action remakes, like The Lion King, have brought little new to the table and are mostly perceived as shameless cash grabs which use reformatting as an excuse.
