A person has been detained for questioning.
The Athens Police Department is investigating a Saturday afternoon shooting at Fifth Avenue Apartments that left one man dead and another injured.
Officers responded around 2:48 p.m. to the apartment complex near 5th Avenue and Sanders Street after several 911 calls about a shooting. The deceased victim’s body was found by officers in a grassy area, according to Capt. Brett M. Constable. While officers were conducting their investigation at the apartment complex, a wounded man arrived at Athens Hospital in a private vehicle. Officers later determined that he was injured in the deadly shooting at the apartments. He was shot in the leg and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Constable said in a news release. The shooting victims’ names have not been released.
