One person is dead and at least 20 others are injured after a shooting early Sunday in a suburban Chicago parking lot, according to local news reports.
a big group was gathered in a strip mall parking lot for a Juneteenth celebration.
Fire officials said two victims are in critical condition and that officers applied tourniquets to wounded victims at the scene. Witnesses described the scene as "chaotic" and said people began running for cover as gunfire ran out. It was supposed to be like a Juneteenth celebration. We just started hearing shooting, so we dropped down until they stopped,” Markeshia Avery told WLS-TV.“Gathering for a holiday gathering should be a joyful occasion, not a time where gunfire erupts and families are forced to run for safety,” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said in a statement Sunday.
