A single-engine Piper PA 28 crashed around 3 p.m. while approaching Republic Airport in Farmingdale, New York, authorities said. It's unknown how many people were on board. The plane crashed near 5th Street and North Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. Two of the plane's occupants were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
