A $1.3 billion data center campus could soon be built near San Marcos, according to economic development officials. Prime Data Centers, a national data center developer, has plans for a multi-building data center project on a 206-acre site in Caldwell County, about 10 miles east of San Marcos and about 3 miles northwest of Lockhart, according to the Greater San Marcos Partnership, a regional economic development organization. A data center is a facility that stores digital data.
