While we wait for a new 007 movie, First Light gives us new James Bond adventures in the realm of action/stealth video games
is nonetheless pressing forward in the video game space."Dexter: Original Sin" actor Patrick Gibson stars as Ian Fleming's iconic secret agent in IO Interactive's"007 First Light," a brand new origin story for fiction's most legendary spy.
Not counting mobile games, there hasn't been a proper James Bond video game since 2012's ill-fated"007 Legends," but with the films taking a break for now, there's no time like the present for 007 to make an impression in the realm of gaming. IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios are pulling out all the stops with the game, sparing no expense to create an authentic James Bond experience that would fit right alongside the best of his cinematic or literary adventures.A staple of the James Bond franchise is an extravagant credits sequence set to an original pop song from one of today's hottest stars. That tradition even extended to prior, like Mya's theme to 2003's"Everything or Nothing" and Joss Stone's"I'll Take It All" from 2011's"Blood Stone." For"007 First Light," they enlisted none other than Lana Del Rey to sing the original song, also titled"First Light," which she co-wrote alongside legendary Bond composer David Arnold. To promote the game, IO Interactive released the song to their YouTube channel, but they one-upped themselves today, releasing the complete credits sequence that will appear in-game. The title sequence looks just like something that would appear in the films, complete with exciting explosions, abstract imagery that will surely tie into the themes of the story, and naked silhouettes of beautiful women striking glamorous poses. Check it out below. James Bond is on the cusp of a new era. In film, EON Productions is no longer making the movies, with Amazon/MGM taking the reins, and while I'm optimistic, it's impossible to know how it will shake out at this early stage. On the other hand, it's refreshing to see 007 make such a grand comeback in gaming. we still have to wait and see if the game can live up to expectations. Thankfully, we don't have to wait long:"007 First Light" is due out on May 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. A Switch 2 version will be launching later in the Summer.
