Music has been a big part of Jill Marlar's life from a young age. Now, she works to share her love of music with children across the county.
) - Jill Marlar feels right at home with a guitar in her hands. Music has been a big part of her life from a young age. “Maybe third, fourth grade for piano and guitar,” said Greenville resident Jill Marlar .
“And then I was just always singin’ in church choir.” About a year ago she and her family moved to Butler County, to be close to family. She noticed something was missing. Butler County woman Jill Marlar spreads her love for creative arts through her non profit MuseALABAMA.“I started askin’ around and found out there was no music classes being offered in the county, there was very little in the public school system, and there really wasn’t even much at the only private school.”“I just have lived my life surrounded by the arts and I just want everybody to know that we can all, ya know, have access to it.” When she’s not teaching piano or guitar at home, she’s on the move. On this day, she stopped at the Early Steps pre school program in Georgiana. For some of these little three, four and five-year-olds, this may be their first exposure to creative arts. “And I think that if we’re not making it available, especially to students, then we’re doing just a huge disservice. If we can build robust sports programs, there’s no reason we can’t do that equally with the arts.”Butler County woman Jill Marlar spreads her love for creative arts through her non profit MuseALABAMA.If you’d like to help Marlar just kicked off an 18 day for her non profit. Her goal is to spread creative arts, starting in Butler County and hopefully all over the state, to give everyone a chance to enjoy something she loves.
