A couple on the Jersey Shore won an appeal last week allowing them to add 10 boat slips behind their waterfront home, despite criticism from local residents who believe it will create a commercial marina in a residential area.
A Jersey Shore couple won an appeal last week of a zoning decision that had halted reconstruction of their waterfront home. The ruling allows them to add 10 boat slips behind their property.
The project has drawn criticism from residents around Glen Cove in Ocean City. For years, several residents have opposed the addition of 10 boat slips behind the home on West 10th Street, believing such additions would create a commercial marina inside a narrow lagoon intended for back-bay access. The city’s zoning office previously said the boat slips would require a use variance for the landward side of the bulkhead and because the boat slips didn’t conform to ordinances regulating marina uses. Thomas and Beverly Gill won an appeal on Wednesday after a hearing at the city Zoning Board, which ruled that a variance isn’t needed.See which Jersey Shore town just became more pet-friendly
