Aquarian Charter School traded the classroom for something a little more colorful as students participated in a field day celebration on May 19, 2026.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Aquarian Charter School traded the classroom for something a little more colorful as students participated in a field day celebration on Tuesday.

Nearly 400 students and 150 parent volunteers came together at Arctic Rec Center for the event, according to event organizers. This year featured about 40 stations including a petting zoo, obstacle courses, bouncy houses and a hair station.

“You can like feel the joy, like walking around. The kids, I mean, are just like skipping from like one station to another,” Campbell said.

Third grade student Ryan Bridges described the event as “just a huge recess where you can have fun and walk around and do all these amazing things with your friends. ”“This is not like the field day I had back in the day at all. Kids look forward to it all year,” Brenock-Leduc said.

Third grade teacher Danielle Lesko said the event sends an important message to students and rounds out the year.

“This is just a way to just celebrate that winning and just kind of close out the school year as they go into the summer season,” Lesko said. “We really become so much more than teachers and students and parents. We really are family,” Nerland said.
