A newly listed lakefront compound in Austin could become the most expensive house ever sold in Texas, if a buyer meets the $50 million asking price. Built in 2020 on nearly six acres at the shore of Lake Austin, a reservoir about 10 miles northwest of the capital's downtown, theIn a promotional video posted to the website of Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty, listing agent Bridget Ramey describes the"new century modern" home as"the crescendo of artisans and craftsmen who have embarked to challenge the status quo in luxury.
"Can you guess the price of this luxury River Oaks-area condo with its own backyard in the sky? “Comprised of 80,000 pounds of steel, two pools, the finest of curated materials and privacy, this property is truly one of one,” Ramey said. Between the large main house and the guest houses, the property contains more than 10,500 square feet of interior living space, nine bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and a five-plus car garage. Additional luxurious amenities include an artist studio, an in-home fitness center, a dry sauna, a home theater and a private boat dock. Owner Brett Ames, a real-estate developer, in 2014 acquired the land on which to build a home for his family. The price he paid for the land is not public record in Texas, but Ames said construction of the compound cost around $1,250 per square foot. In May, Austin home prices were down 14.3 percent compared to last year, selling for a median price of $574,000, according to real estate website. This May, homes in Austin were selling after an average of 42 days on the market, compared with just 26 days in May 2022. To set the record for priciest home in Texas, the Austin compound must sell before a French chateau-style estate in North Dallas that was listed at $60 million this spring.
