It happened about 15 minutes after midnight Thursday on Webster Avenue in Claremont. But, that's when gunfire erupted again. Police say a bullet was fired and went through a parked ambulance and shattering the front windshield.
The FDNY EMS Local 2507 union released a statement that said in part, "After yet another incident, when a bullet struck an FDNY EMS crew's ambulance while responding to a 911 call at Webster Ave. in the Bronx, it is absolutely clear that the members of EMS deserve more and better support, and respect for the extremely dangerous work we do as New York City's front line, medical first responders. That job requires our medics to run into unknown and dangerous situations, including crime scenes, shootouts, and major CBRN incidents.
"The scene remains secured as detectives work to piece together what happened. The 18-year-old victim of the nearby shooting is listed in stable condition Thursday morning at a local hospital. According to NYPD CompStat in the Bronx there have been 78 shooting incidents so far this year compared to 88 at this same point last year, down by 11.4%.to respond faster to incidents and focus on crime hot spots.
